Q&A with Abby Garden 

Q: What inspires your approach to wedding florals?

A: Beauty. Full stop. I love a well designed space, tailoring the perfect vintage find, when a client adores their fiance in that certain way and the way the light hits the trees in the woods behind my home. I started as a dancer: contemporary movement and choreography. I fully believe in soft luxury and my designs embody the untamed yet effortless qualities of nature in harmony with the grace and fluidity of dance. It’s the choreography of flowers!

Q: How would you describe your design style?

A: While our studio is known for executing everything from modern and minimalist compositions to lush, timeless classics, for me personally: texture leads. I’m drawn to the way ingredients interact—how soft blooms meet structured stems, how negative space can create sculptural shapes. My style balances intentional placement with a sense of movement, creating designs that feel elevated, artful, and deeply sensory.

Q: What floral trends or design elements are you excited about for the coming seasons?

A: I’m excited about the growing shift toward fully curated environments, where florals don’t just stand alone—they’re in conversation with draping, textures, and custom-built pieces. We’re seeing more couples drawn to immersive installations, custom fabrication, and thoughtful layering of materials. Because our studio is multidisciplinary, we’re able to provide those elements in-house, ensuring every detail speaks the same design language and the entire space feels cohesive, intentional, and flawlessly integrated.

Q: How would you describe your floral design style?

A: Our niche is seasonal garden style- loose, unexpected, synced up perfectly with Maine. That said, we are a team with a collected 30+ years of experience, and can flex to meet any style. We have been especially loving contemporary sculptural shapes made with limited floral materials.

Q: What inspires your approach to wedding florals?

A: The materials! We get just the most special and unusual floral materials from our long term relationships with Maine farmers. We build our arrangements around what’s absolutely banging, and that fresh energy is palpable.

Q: What do you love most about designing weddings at French’s Point?

A: It’s such an adventure! I feel like I can channel the excitement and wonder of my wedding clients’ friends and family every time I make the trek. I also love FP’s very friendly and helpful staff. It’s a treat to feel such camaraderie and supported by the team spirit there.

Q: Is there a particular space at the estate that sparks your creativity?

A: Their epic spot there on that cliff with the ocean all around calls for BIG florals to be proportional and impactful. I’ve loved installing various forms for ceremonies on different parts of the lawn as well as grand tent florals. It’s a venue to go all out and let the flowers energy-match the environment.

Q: What floral trends or design elements are you excited about for the coming seasons?

A: Flowers themselves have really become a trend! Clients are coming to me recently with such a more nuanced understanding of not only flower styles, but also respect for how much they can add to their event. Especially when the flowers are of Maine and fit the season and environment so perfectly. A runner up answer would be the trend of making wedding designs more in sync with couples’ individual style and priorities more than a cookie cutter approach to the celebration.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give couples as they begin planning their floral design?

A: Do not underestimate how much LIFE flowers bring to your celebration. They may seem superfluous, but they are actually your most important design tool. They are so precious and special and ephemeral- harness your wedding to that quiet power! Also, florals are best planned AFTER you’ve gone through your whole event design process. Once you’ve settled on the vibe, priorities, feeling you’re conjuring, flow, palette, decorative elements, etc. of your event, it’s easy for us to take a look at all these plans and know exactly the right type of flowers to bolster the event design. From your thoughtful plans, we know where to place high-impact arrangements and installations, what style of florals fit, how to complement the palette, what vessel materials work best with your other rentals, etc. Book early, and then circle back once the design plans are complete to fill in with the floral plans.
